Deletion

Computer users remove files from computer file systems in order to free up disk space, remove duplicate or unnecessary data, or hide sensitive data from detection. All operating systems include commands for deleting files, either manually or by the use of file managers. Some businesses are required by law to practise confidential waste disposal. Once removed from sight, however, the file is overwritten and not obliterated. Data that is unseen is not necessarily lost.

Formatting

Disk formatting is done to prepare a hard drive for use, and usually includes securing an empty file system for data storage. Often businesses partition large disks, dividing the space into sections that are formatted with individual file systems; if accidental formatting or deletion does occur, then MVI Data Recovery can retrieve data from all partitioned storage systems, including RAID and external drives. Formatting the disk and reinstalling the operating system will clean a corrupted hard drive. During the process of formatting, important files should be saved elsewhere.
